Some thoughts on the Repentance, Forgiveness, and the Atonement by Elder Anderson:
I am amazed at the Savior's encircling arms of mercy and love for the repentant, no matter how selfish the forsaken sin. I testify that our Savior is able and eager to forgive our sins.
For most, repentance is more a journey than a one-time event. Repentance is turning away from some things, such as dishonesty, pride, anger, and impure thoughts, and turning toward other things, such as kindness, unselfishness, patience, and spirituality. It is "re-turning" toward God.
I like that point that repentance is not just "turning away" from wrong, but it is also "turning toward" Godly things. Too often we forget that second part and that is why we don't completely heal. We need to do both parts.

"When we sin, we turn away from God. When we repent, we turn back toward God." I hadn't really thought of sin in terms of physically turning away from Heavenly Father. I also liked the comment "Don't be discouraged. If you are striving and working to repent, you are in the porcess of repenting." Sometimes I think we forget that repentence is a process, and being 'in the process' is what we need to be because we all make mistakes every day that we show us how we need to make changes in our lives.
ReplyDelete"The invitation to repent is...a loving appeal to turn around & to 're-turn' to God...to be more than we are, to reach up to a higher way of life, to change, and to feel the happiness of keeping the commandments." We can always improve-always "reaching to a higher way of life."
ReplyDelete"Rependtance is...turning toward...kindness, unselfishness, patience, & spirituality." We replace our bad habits with good ones.
