We Are Doing a Great Work and Cannot Come Down - President Dieter F. Uchtdorf sat phd

This is a great talk. It was also our 4th Sunday lesson for May (5/24/2009) that I taught to the Quatama Ward High Priest's group.

We cannot and must not allow ourselves to get distracted from our sacred duty. We cannot and must not lose focus on the things that matter most.

  1. MOM here: I love the quote that is at the beginning of the talk. Distractions are all around us every day. "Are you focused on the tinkgs that matter most? How you spend your quiet time my provide a vauable clue. Where do your thoughts go when the pressure of deadlines is gone?..What are the things that distract you from magnifying your calling more diligently?" This is something I struggle with daily. How to balance my calling with my family and work responsibilities. It would be easier to focus on 1 and ignore the other 2, but I know that all 3 are important. I am working on balancing the time I spend at work and in my calling so that I am spending time with my family first.

  2. "Our weakness is in failing to align our actions with our conscience." How do we spend our time? We need to have balance- too much of a good thing (when neglecting other things) is a bad thing. I feel really accomplished when I've done lots of little things-dishes, dinner, scriptures, running, playing with Christopher, feeding Michael, and a little time blogging; than alot of time on one thing. (I've been doing dishes all day and they never seem to get done) "What could be accomplished if we 'put away childish things' and gave ourselves, heart and soul, to becoming worthy priesthood bearers and true representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ." Missionaries do this for two years...how can we do this in our lives?
